i guarantee this is the most anybody has ever thought about a single plastic cone in the history of human society
and now, 4 years and 86 songs later, we're done. it's over now. for real, i hope
the cone was a small album about a regular gym cone (like the orange ones you would see in the gym in middle/high school, at least in the u.s.) terra and i had spotted on top of a roof covering the entrance to the main building at our highschool. we put it together in a month and a half and shipped it with a haphazard ms-paint drawing made using the line tool. it was actually going to come out the month later but potatolord2925's dad wanted to hear our work REALLY BAD and nobody really felt like continuing so we just called it done. this album is what represents the start of mt180 music
the cone 2 was a much larger album with much more time put into it. it started sometime only a few months after the release of the original album. it wasn't as experimental as the first, but it's hard to say anyone didn't improve
when i hosted the cone 3, i did so partially out of spite. i had never intended for there to be a second cone album but when terra told me there were plans to make a second and it was already in progress it was too late to stop it. i wanted the cone to be over so bad i removed the cone from the cover, went out of my way not to put too much effort into any of my tracks, and set a submission deadline hardly a month after the group announcement. even so, the improvement is obvious and impressive
some stuff that isn't really relevant but would otherwise be lost to time if not documented
the idea came about in june- terra and i had already talked about the possibility of doing a new compilation album but we couldn't come up with anything more compelling than the cone was. in june i realized that the fourth anniversary of the cone was going to happen eventually and there was no better excuse to create another cone album. the FOURTH anniversary? for the FOURTH cone ?? yeah ok buddy how realistic
anyways now it's here, after only 3 submissions after the deadline lmao
fun potatolord2925 fact: he had made next to no tunes since the cone 3 and couldn't get anything to happen until THE MONTH OF THE RELEASE so yeah shoutout to The potato is a starchy tuberous vegetable native to the Americas that is co
i'm sure your browser loves rendering that one. lol
this one started as a test of one of the methods in virtual riot's reese video and a preview in my discord server. i revived it for this project when i listened to the project and my brain was manifesting a melody to put on it. the bass with the high tone on it is really funny and reminds me of 2012 and you can't take it away from me
the title is in reference to an image terra sent in my discord after i sent a preview of the last drop
i made this one after popbot posted a (at the time private) link to capsule which has been living in my head ever since. i don't really like the first half of this one but it has to be there or it feels inscrutable
i swear the cover was funnier when i made it
this song is straight up a ripoff of ♥ GOJII ♥ - THEN WE STOOD STILL which is really fucking good the bass sound design is literally flawless there are no better reeses out there so yeah shoutout to _______
the primary focus of this tune is the drums which i did a pretty mediocre job on and everything else is a footnote
one will note the presence of STOP POSTING ABOUT AMONG US guy. he's here because it felt wrong to have a cone album without him. the first two albums were absolutely riddled with nonsense like this and it's where so much of the character comes from i think. we've lost something in the last 4 years. :(
wouldn't be an mt180-related album without a needlessly long title. this is a direct sequel to oops i caught an alienparasite from the cone 3. the bass was created in vital to approximate the preset i used in the original but with a bit more control. i think i did a pretty good job. the vibe of this one is insane
like the original, the drums are outrageous. i recall the kick alone having a phaser and a phase distortion on it. the snare consists primarily of a sine from some random vst, a plate reverb plugin, and a stack of resonators to create a completely awful tone. the hihats are various samples of me hitting metal things in my room with some utility scissors i have
if you're reading this page on your phone there's like a 75% chance the title of this one contains boxes instead of characters. clearly this isn't my fault whatsoever
this tune was started after i had a really funny idea for a drum pattern while i was taking a shower so i whipped up the intro in like 30 minutes. the reese thing is vaguely reminiscent of igorrr - very noise. all the odd bass textures were created over the span of about 2 weeks in various tools by putting simply too many modulated effects on detuned saw waves. the song ends with final days crongs because i felt like it was necessary to include a reference to that song in here somewhere, considering how influential that tune has been on my releases since the cone 2. i think this is the sixth track to use that sound and it still works just as it did in 2022
a sequel to the joker of music. i made all the sound design in this one myself, unlike the original where i got the kicks and one of the basses from fyloh's hardcore kicks pack you can probably still find somewhere and i got the stab from jungle jungle
i don't know how i manage it but every last cosmillex tune sounds like it takes place in a dense brutalist ghost city. it's babbdi up in this shit
the third song in the series to use the chords from the cone 1's "Meaning" (the other being meaningless interlude from the cone 2). i don't know what this genre actually is but i think i was originally aiming for some kind of ukg thing with the second half. this is the one i have the least to say about. it took the least time and it's probably the least interesting
thanks to:
i hope this is the final time i am writing the word "cone" in a release. final and forever. thank you all
